Dental Crowns in One Visit

Dental crowns are used for a variety of reasons. For example, if a tooth has deep decay and the remaining tooth structure is not strong enough to function well, a crown may be placed. When a tooth is lost and a dental implant is used to create a permanent replacement tooth, a crown is attached. Traditionally, having a crown made and placed is inconvenient and mildly unpleasant. Dakota Family Dental in Rapid City, SD, wants to offer you a better alternative.

Traditional Crowns

Before our office began using CEREC® to create single-visit crowns, you would need to come into our office to begin the crown process. You would bite into a goopy mold the lab would use to fabricate the finished crown. We would place a temporary crown to protect the area and send you home. A week or more later, when we received the permanent crown, we would schedule another appointment to remove the temporary crown and fit the permanent one.

CEREC®

With our state-of-the-art technology, the process is faster, easier, and more comfortable. We use CAD CAM to take a digital image of your mouth. The digital impression is used to make a mold for the crown — you don’t have to bite into the messy mold material, deal with a temporary crown, or schedule a second appointment! The CEREC system will then use the digital data to fabricate the crown from ceramic. The image, the fabrication, and the placement of the permanent crown is all done in one day, at one appointment.
